Baldur's Gate 3

Baldur's Gate 3 is a videogame created by Larian Studios and released in 2023. It's set in the WOTC Dungeons and Dragons: Sword Coast setting, specifically in the region around Baldur's Gate.

Baldur's Gate 3 is a CRPG developed by Larian Studios that's set around Baldur's Gate, a city on the Sword Coast in the Dungeons and Dragons setting. It's also one of my favourite games with some of the most interesting characters I've seen in a AAA game.

I'm obsessed with all of the companions and a lot of the NPCs you can find throughout the game, and I plan to romance them all when their romance arcs aren't bugged (coughs in 'writing this during patch 3').

My Favourite Companions

I find all of the companions interesting in different ways, but my three favourites have to be Wyll, Karlach, and Astarion.

Karlach is nearly always my PC's best friend and I love her to pieces, she's fiercely loyal to her friends and is a lot of fun to hang around with. Her story is devastating and the post-killing-Gortash scene always makes me emotional. She's also the one friend who will say she loves you, which means everything. More characters need to vocally love their friends, also she's direct and I appreciate that.

I think Astarion is one of the saddest and funniest companions. His backstory is a huge, 2 century long, tragedy where you can help him break free and learn to care for himself more. He's also the most sarcastic and has the most over the top voice acting of them all, making him the funniest. I love this guy, he's got depth and the voice to go with it.

Saving my favourite for last: I'm obsessed with Wyll. He's a fairytale prince type with the secret devil patron he has to resist to try and keep his good nature, and he succeeds! His romance arc is a proper courtship and he proposes to you with an acorn, from a tree his mother told him grants wishes, and says to be with you is his wish. I'm not immune to the romance of it all and I'm not sorry about it at all.

I'm also interested in how he gets multiple big path changing moments, compared to some of the others (even if some don't make as big an impact on the gameplay). His choice to not kill Karlach, if he saves himself or his father, if he'll end up as a duke or the Blade of Avernus. It's letting him pick selfishly and balancing out what's good and what will only hurt him more. His decision going against his father's suggestion at the end, if he chooses himself to become the Blade of Avernus, is so important to me! His father respecting his decision is also important! I cannot overstate how much I love this man.

My Favourite Moments

Truly my favourite moment (so far) is when Wyll proposes to you, but I also love a lot of the payoff scenes that happen in act 2 and 3. Rescuing the tieflings from the prison and seeing them later in Baldur's Gate, the fight with Ketheric Thorm and his fantastic avatar form (especially compared to how hilariously pathetic Gortash's form was), seeing Mayrina with her husband in the abandoned house to the south, and pretty much any moment that has a previous character reappear (I was ecstatic seeing Dammon again in act 3).

Another moment that comes to mind is the post-killing-Gortash scene (mentioned earlier in the character section) if you have Karlach there. It's so heartbreaking to see it get to her, and to see her finally cry about how awful a hand she's been dealt. Then when you go see her in camp and she's happy, not about dying, but about where she is, who she's with. It kills me, I love her so much and only want her to be happy.
